Immune Diseases of Inflammatory Dysregulation (Immune Mediated Inflammatory Disease)

or Inflammatory Diseases of Immune Dysregulation (Immune Mediated inflammatory Disease) is any of a group of conditions that:

  • Share common inflammatory pathways
  • May have unknown definitive etiologies
  • Are a dysregulation of the immune response leading to inflammation
  • Can cause organ damage, increased morbidity or mortality
The Study of inflammation offers a wealth of opportunities for impacting biomedical research and health care because inflammation mediates and is the primary driver of many diseases, including Ankylosing Spondylitis, arthritis, autoimmune diseases and allergy, as well as many of the cardiovascular, neuromuscular, and infectious diseases.

progression of ankylosing spondylitis

I.D.I.D. is characterized by immune disregulation that results in acute or chronic inflammation, causing organ damage and increased morbidity and mortality. One underlying manifestation of this immune disregulation is the inappropriate activation of in-flammatory cytokines, such as IL 12, IL 6 or TNFa, whose actions lead to pathological consequences.
